Read for Life is a family-based literacy program that
encourages parents to provide the foundation for reading
beginning at birth.

Read for Life knows that children from
families who read together have a greater potential for
success in school.

Read for Life is committed to breaking
the cycle of illiteracy through early intervention, direct
service projects and community awareness.

In spite of a growing interest in literacy, the
need for Read for Life continues. Poverty is
a problem in Tulare County and the
education level of residents aged 16 and
older lags behind nearly every other county
statewide (2000 census data).

The county is regularly ranked as one of the
top five in the state for teenage pregnancy.

The connection between early exposure to
reading and success in school is well
documented. Read for Life continues to
work toward solving many problems.
